Top 10 Fun Jobs for Teens

Not all things in life are about hard work and discipline. Sometimes a fun first job is exactly what is needed to peak a teens interest in working. So, let’s take a look at the top 10 fun jobs for teens.

Camp Counselor

Obviously a position as a camp counselor is a seasonal type of job, but for those who love working with children it may be well worth it.

Camp counselors organize activities, lead programs and games, and provide kids with a safe and fun camp experience. Camps come in a wide variety of structures from part time to live in full time. Make sure that you select a camp that is right for you. While the pay may differ from camp to camp, the experiences and friendships you make can last a lifetime

Record Store Associate

If music is your passion then working at a record store may be a great first job for you. With digital music being so easy to access, brick and mortar record stores and definitely hard to come by. Record store employees stock shelves, sell records and help the customers find what they are looking for.

The great part about this job is that you are surrounded by people who love music as much as you do and through them are introduced to different styles, genres and artists that you may have never heard before.

Dog Sitting

If you love dogs, getting a job as a dog sitter may be an ideal job for you. Through sites like Rover, you can get paid for dog boarding, dog walking or doggie day care. With a name like Rover one might think this site is all about dogs, well not so fast. Rover provides many of the same services for cat lovers as well.

I honestly can’t think of a better way to make money than by playing with an adorable animal all day.

Video Game Tester

Most teens love to play video games. Well imagine getting paid to do just that as a videogame tester. The mission of a videogame tester is to play games that have yet to be released to the public and try to find “bugs” or “glitches” in the game before the game’s release.

Testers must play the game from the beginning to the end multiple times. If the game has different modes of play the tester must finish the game in all of them. If the game has multiple characters, the tester must complete the game as each character in order to find all the glitches the game may be hiding. While it may seem repetitive, it is an integral part of the development process. Video games would not be the near 90 billion industry it is today without testers.

Swim Instructor

If you take to water like a fish and enjoy teaching kids becoming a swim instructor may be right up your lane. Training requires first aid and CPR certification. Some kids will jump in literally with both feet while others will honestly be scared to death of the water so a large amount of patience will be key to this job. Knowing when to push kids past their comfort zone and when to support them when they are intimidated is key.

Lifeguard

Spending all summer poolside sounds like a dream come true. Now imagine getting paid for that dream. Most think of beautiful people sitting in red bathing suits in towers overlooking the water. While it seems like a perfect place to meet potential dates, being a lifeguard is very serious work. Lifeguards are responsible for the safety and in some cases the lives of the people they oversee. Just like a swim instructor, training requires first aid and CPR certifications.

Food Service Worker

While this probably isn’t the most exciting job on the list becoming a food service worker may be an excellent first time job. Not only is it stable pay, but you have easy access to large quantities of food. I used to work at Olive Garden when I was a teen and made a mockery of their free breadstick policy.

Not only does it provide food and pay but due to the fact that it is often a first job there are normally a large number of young people working there. Making friends you may have not otherwise met is another possible perk of working as a food service worker.

Food Delivery Driver

If you have a vehicle and gas money you can make some cash as a food delivery driver. Delivery drivers don’t just work at pizza parlors anymore, through sites like Postmates and DoorDash you can provide people with a variety of meals in the comfort of their own homes. These sites allow you to work the hours you choose which leaves plenty of time for friends and school.

Movie Theater Worker

Future movie directors may love a first job as a Movie Theater Worker. This job offers you the chance to see every movie that comes to theaters while having access to the most buttery popcorn imaginable. What could be better to a teenager?

We’ve all seen them take and sell tickets but what are their other job duties? Glad you asked, movie theater workers clean theaters, hallways, and lobbies. They also set up movie displays, put up coming soon posters and deal directly with customers. They also learn the age old secret of how to make delicious movie theater popcorn. That nugget of wisdom is worth its weight in gold.

Entrepreneur

Some teens feel the entrepreneurial spirit early and begin a business for themselves. For me it was cutting lawns but for kids today the possibilities are endless. Kids can stick with the traditional teen jobs like babysitting and car washing or venture into business’ like starting a YouTube channel, doing graphic design, or building websites for customers.

Fiverr is a great place for people to sell products and their services. Many entrepreneurs on this site design logos, write blog articles or even do voice over work. Prices on Fiverr are very reasonable and start as low as $5. I actually used Fiverr to have the Kashcalf logo created.

Conclusion

Starting your working years off on the right foot is huge and building the foundation for a future career is essential. A fun job can get young people excited about work and begin to build that foundation to a prosperous future.
